We are a grant giving charity which funds projects for organisations within Liverpool and Merseyside who support women and children who have suffered from domestic abuse.
Our Story
The Charity is named after Ellie Hunt who was born and brought up in Birkenhead and Liverpool before travelling the world as a nurse and eventually settling in Australia.
Ellie’s professional and personal purpose, was that she always wanted to help others, women and children financially but perhaps more importantly, by rolling up her sleeves and making a real difference on a day-to-day basis.
In 2006, along with a handpicked team, Ellie founded the Northern Beaches Women’s Housing Co-Op in Manly, NSW specifically to help homeless women.
In 2010, funded by the Hunt Family Foundation she was instrumental in opening The Manly Women’s Shelter and the Northern Beaches Women’s Shelter which she helped run on a daily basis ensuring that the help was given to the women who needed it the most.

Since these shelters opened, many women have passed through the doors and had their lives completely changed.
Sadly, in October 2013, the world lost our beautiful Ellie and the then Australian Prime Minister paid this tribute to Ellie Hunt: Australian Prime Minister pays tribute to Ellie Hunt.
Ellie’s final wishes included an instruction to her nephew and his wife that a charity be set up to continue her life’s work where it all began on Merseyside and The Ellie Trust was duly formed.
Our Trustees
We are a board of five trustees, which include Ellie’s nephew and his wife, who have a mutual desire to continue Ellie’s legacy in making a real difference to those suffering or who have suffered domestic abuse in our city.
Our trustees work tirelessly to seek out impactful projects which will change lives for the better.
